Entry for Best Residential Architectural Practice – Northern Design Awards 2019
Hayes and Partners have entered North Design Awards 2019 for Best Residential Architectural Practice.
‘Open to residential architectural practices based in the North, our judging panel is seeking a practice with impeccable credentials which delivers for its clients time after time.’
We are a thriving architectural practice working in the private sector in the North West. We serve private individuals and client/developers; people wanting to maximise the potential of their properties, others wanting to improve or extend their homes and farmers wanting to convert agricultural buildings. Our clients’ budgets currently range from £100,000 to £2.5m; this year our work included replacement dwellings, conversions, affordable housing and house extensions. Our area of influence spans the Green Belt, open countryside and the Peak District.
Our design approach sets us apart; we always respond to a client’s requirements and the site context, views and orientation to create the best results. Hayes and Partners has no ‘house style’; we do not impose our design tastes on clients. Our portfolio shows a diverse range of architectural approaches where no two designs are the same.
We are versatile in our understanding and application of different architectural forms. Whatever the style – traditional vernacular or modern – our designs are the best examples of their type.
We believe good architecture is the enclosure of space, capture of sunlight and framing of views. It is a balance of proportion, quality of materials and efficient use of area. We work to create a wow-factor in each project, whether it is a large/high entrance hall, glazed space or open plan kitchen, our designs surpass the clients’ needs, expectations and aspirations, enriching their lives.
We design our buildings to be highly insulated and airtight to reduce the energy required for the building in use.
We specify multi-foil insulation which also acts as an airtight barrier, and highly insulated windows. We favour timber glulam beams over steel, as a low carbon material, setting a theme for the design throughout a project. We favour local products from sustainable sources to reduce the carbon footprint of our designs.
We are mindful of the orientation of the each building to make best use of morning and evening sun and solar gain; rooflights and sunpipes direct natural light into all rooms, reducing the electrical load.
